It was a damn sight better than last Christmas.  Although that wouldn’t have required much (last Christmas we abandoned the rest of the day with Toni’s family because of a call from my sister informing us that mom had gone back into the hospital in Indy and things were looking bad).

Toni and I headed down to Louisville as soon as she finished working Thursday afternoon.  Dinner (Costco pizza – actually pretty good) with her parents, then some Euchre.  I was surprised they wanted to play Toni and me at Euchre given how well we cleaned the floor with them the last time (which was long enough ago I’ve forgotten exactly how long, but I know they were still living in Indy).  Toni and I won the first two games, then her parents won the last one.  Much laughter throughout due to our usual silliness, and Toni noticing her mom had blue hair.

On Friday, her mom made us pancakes and bacon for breakfast, and we headed over to Toni’s brother’s house around 11am.  Opened gifts soon after we got there.  I/we got books (The Collected Stories of Roger Zelazny Vols. 3 & 4 and The Encyclopedia of Immaturity), DVDs (Mythbusters Collection 4, and Pixar Short Films Collection), nice handcrafted wood name signs made by her dad, and a few other things I can’t recall and have yet to unpack.  Probably the most appropriate joint gift to Toni and me was a “National Sarcasm Society – Like We Need Your Support” sign.  Dinner was had – delicious beef tenderloin and accouterments.  Games were played (I had to remember how to play Mexican train dominoes), Star Trek was watched on Toni’s brother’s family’s new TV, and much nothing was done.

This morning, Toni and I packed up and headed out.  Met [livejournal.com profile] cjsmith and [livejournal.com profile] rfrench for lunch before leaving Louisville – Rob I’d so far only known online, and CJ I’d not seen since the last time I was in California over six years ago (and I hope it is not another six before seeing either of them again!).  We probably could have sat in Red Robin for hours just chatting, but they had plans and we wanted to beat the snow and sunset back home.

My family didn’t do much for the holiday this year.  Mom was sort of the glue, so I’m not too surprised no plans were made.  I like spending time with Toni’s family for the holidays, and it was a nice opportunity to meet with the friends we had lunch with today, but it’s also nice to be home afterward.

Sounds like you two had a lot of fun. That sign could live here very happily too.
Must do a Christmas post myself, before I forget.
Hope you arrive home safe and warm.

We had to turn the thermostat back up, but it's warm now. And I'm sure that sign would fit in your home, too. ;-)
