Just spent ten minutes tearing around the bookcase next to the computer desk in our home office trying to find the source of a noise. Out of nowhere, it started - blaring like a smoke detector, only not quite as loud. It wasn't any of the computer hardware. It wasn't the MP3 player. It wasn't the cordless phone. Turns out, it was a pedometer sitting on the bookcase. I have no idea why it was screeching like that. I don't recall that it's even supposed to make noise. I tried all the buttons, to no avail. I ended up having to loosen the battery cover and briefly remove the watch-style battery. Whatever...

I thought of that. It certainly has a rather forceful means of notification. Also, it's been sitting unused for well over a year, and even has a twin that is just as old and was not making any noise. Oh, well...

We just did a similar thing to find one of our carbon monoxide detectors. It would squawk about once every thirty seconds, so we took a little while to narrow down the source. Low battery - thank goodness that was easily silenced fixed!
