My brain is a weird enough place. I've long been curious about and somewhat fascinated by LSD, but I'm afraid of it, mainly because I know what I can conjure up in my brain without help. :-)

I've heard elsewhere that one doesn't necessarily hallucinate, that it can just distort perception of what's actually there.

Not just "can," I'd say, but "does." Not everyone's distortions are in the visual realm, though. Mine were, but acid hallucinations, IME, aren't so much a matter of "seeing things that aren't there" as "seeing the things that are there in new ways." Wood-paneled bathroom doors, for instance, were often a source of never-ending fascination for me because the grain patterns tended to glow and squirm.

If you're curious about LSD I can highly recommend Salvia Divinorum - still legal at the moment. Unfortunately you need a 'bubbler' (aka bong) to use it properly. But it's worth the time IMHO.
