Solar Panels vs. Trees

Trees block solar panels, and a feud ends in U.S. court
I've been to Sunnyvale and neighboring cities more times than I can count, and have seen plenty of both in the area. Personally, I think the tree-owners should have been able to leave their redwoods alone, since they were there well before the neighbor installed the solar panels. This is another example of excessive litigiousness (and self-righteousness) that royally pisses me off. It's also not surprising to start to see conflicting environmental interests that are both on the side of conservation. What do you think?

Date: 2008-05-21 04:23 am (UTC)I think it's silly to build a house or put in solar collectors in their ultimate shade (they grow fast), but I'm fine with not allowing people to plant them next to other people's existing houses or things-that-shouldn't-be-shaded.

I don't see solar power being a very efficient system giving current technology (and cost). At a time down the road yes.
But solar power is still man made and there has to be a by-product of that so what are the negatives of manufacturing we do not see?.
Trees are going bye bye at a rate that is way too high. Every place around my area if it's flat enough and big enough to build on they do.
Is cutting a tree going to kill it well no (or maybe yes) but it is still a reduction, vs. creation (building of solar)
but no way in hell should someone be able to tell me I have to cut my tree just so they can get more sun.
I don't know Vargas's just seems a bit UGH!
(well he should be glad he doesn't live next to me)
I could go on but.........
