It says something about the changes in my food preferences over the years when I find out that today's "staff lunch" (an every two weeks event at my office wherein all the employees at the site get together for a lunch meeting paid for by the company, but provided by each employee in a rotation) was Long John Silver's, and my first reaction was "Ewwww". Many years ago (from High School through my mid-twenties, probably), it was one of my favorite fast food places. Besides, I had skipped it today anyway. It was much more fun to accept an invitation to Bob Evans with [livejournal.com profile] computerchix.

Maxx and I started doing something like this: we put it on our calendars to have lunch every other Tuesday--like a date. We work at the same place, but don't see each other all day (but he calls me a lot). When he calls me spontaneously for lunch, and I have other plans, I hate to turn him down. This way, we both get to feel special to the other :-)

This should work out nicely, because on Tuesdays, we don't usually carpool because of differing plans after work. On the days when we used to drive in together, have lunch, and have many phone calls thoughout the day, we usually ran out of things to talk about on the way home (at least the "how was your day" question was pretty moot).

When [livejournal.com profile] computerchix and I are both in our respective offices, we're only about three miles apart. The problem with setting anything regular for a lunch date like that is that she's a consultant - who knows where she might be on any given day (or hour, for that matter).

With Yahoo!Messenger, we often keep in touch throughout the day.
