Went to a cookout last night and started a game of Munchkin at 10:00pm. Six players. The game went 4 hours and 25 minutes before someone finally won. Several of us had gotten to nine levels, just one step away, only to get trounced and have to back up or worse, completely start over. The funny part is that we could all tell we were all getting tired and slap-happy, and yet I think we found the spirit of the game. No one took an easy out to let someone win so we could go to bed. At 2:25am, someone was finally able to get to that tenth level and put us all out of our misery. :-)

Was this a normal length game for six players?

The last time I played Munchkin with a similar number of people it took an *awfully* long time. I seem to remember at least 2-3 hours.

I love Munchkin!!!

Yes. :D

Well, maybe that's a little long... but the more you're into it the longer it lasts, I think, precisely because nobody is willing to "let" someone win. *hee*

Well, and there's so much "screw over the other player" opportunity in Munchkin, too. That's what makes it fun, but can also make it a loooooong game. :)

Go SJ Games :-)

I like Illuminati, the original "backstab your opponent" game (or was that Comsic Encounter? I forget... Yes I know Cosmic is not SJ)

Ah yes, Illuminati still stands as one of my all-time favorites.

There are very few monsters that require somebody to start again at level one...

I'd say it ran a bit long. Within tolerances, but long.

I've played once, and it seems like that one was pretty short - maybe an hour. I think it was luck of the cards. I was the first to attempt level 10 and I had a VERY powerful hand when I tried. Taking me down wiped out almost all of the backstab cards everyone was holding. The next, or maybe the next-next, attempt to win succeeded.
