In and out of the car a few times today, listening to BBC World Service on my XM satellite radio receiver, when they would do the news each half hour, the reader would say something like:
Britain is holding a general election today. Tony Blair's Labour party will try to win a third term in power.
That was it. On to the next story. No pontificating, no exit polls, no inane commentary. Granted, they mentioned in a promo a couple of times they would have complete coverage once the polls closed, but until then, squat.
I <3 the BBC.

Date: 2005-05-06 02:32 pm (UTC)The Daily Show a couple nights ago contrasted Blair's campaign "town hall" style appearances with Dubya's -- unlike the rah-rah, handpicked crowds GWB speaks to, Blair's asked tough questions and one of them actually called him a liar straight out. He was sweating bullets by the end of it. I'd never vote for Dubya, but I'd at least respect him a *little* if he ever, even once, actually talked publicly to someone who disagreed with him or admitted a mistake (as Blair did in one of the clips Jon Stewart showed).
