Drove down to Jasper, Indiana today with [livejournal.com profile] mac_arthur_park to see my Ipswich Old South Cemetery (IR) print on display at the Krempp Gallery of the Jasper Arts Center. It has been/will be on display for the whole month of September as part of their 11th Annual Juried Art Show. It didn't win any of the specific prizes, but it did make the cut to be displayed. In fact, it was the first thing visible when walking in the gallery door! :-)

Yes, it was a three-and-a-half-hour drive, one-way, but it wasn't too bad. We went down I-65 to Louisville and then cut over I-64. As we were getting off at the Santa Claus, Indiana exit, Al saw a billboard for Holiday World & Splashin' Safari. She initially misread the latter part as Spankin' Safari! Let's just say I'm glad I was already getting off at the exit, or I'd have driven off the road anyway. Almost did that on 65 earlier when I was trying to figure out a billboard for what I think was for the Newport, KY Aquarium - it had a picture of four otters' faces in a row. I wasn't sure at first if they were ferrets. And I'm glad the IN DOT has installed rumble strips on the left shoulder. :-)

We spent about 20 minutes perusing the gallery in Jasper - it was nice. I felt the competition was better than I'd seen at the gallery I went to in Muncie earlier in the year and at any Indiana State Fair in which I've participated so far. I wasn't so put out or confused by the actual winners except the "Best of Show". I thought my print looked better than ever and fit in very well with most of the rest of the entries. I think a lot of the other entries were beginner professionals or student, though, because I think a lot of the works were underpriced.

After a quick lunch at DQ, we drove up through French Lick, Paoli, and Bedford. I took a short detour to show Al the Indiana University Campus in Bloomington, and we made a quick stop at Oliver Winery to pick up a few bottles of their seasonal stuff. Also wanted to go home that way to prove to Al that all of Indiana isn't as flat as it is on the drive to Chicago. :-) So, seven hours in the car for less than an hour to see the gallery. Oh well, it was a fun trip, anyway.

Thanks! I do, too, and it looked so much better in a gallery. :-)

I agree it's a cool shot. :-)

You couldn't even wait to come to a stop, first? ;->
