I'll be here until Tuesday.

Things change. Sat down yesterday after taking Al to work in order to plan out my cross-country driving trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for my photo seminar September 30 - October 2. Since neither Toni nor Al could go, I had tentatively planned to drive to Denver to pick up my friend T, who was going to accompany me the rest of the way. With company and a few extra days on each side of the seminar (I was going to leave this coming Sunday, September 27, and return on my birthday, Tuesday, October 5), we thought about checking out Bryce Canyon, Zion, or even Monument Valley. Unfortunately, T, who has been struggling with a clavicle problem for over two years (ever since a mountain biking accident), had another major surgery in August. This was complicated by an infection and follow-up surgery and other fun and games. So, after I sent the rough itinerary that I drew up yesterday afternoon, I got a response from T saying that she doesn't feel like she's up for the trip. I can totally understand, given her situation. I'm not upset with T in the least.
I started looking at how to pare down the trip and, at the same time, not drive myself crazy (literally) with multiple > 8 hour driving days. Late last night, Toni and I discussed the idea of me flying, which will add a flight and rental car (has to be a 4WD for the area in which the Grand Canyon photo seminar participants including myself are car camping the first night). It saves lots of hotel nights all over the Intermountain West, gas, mileage, and wear and tear on the Baja, and wear and tear on me, though. It also leaves the other car here, making life easier for Toni and Al while I'm gone.
I'm flying into Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon (getting in there around 9pm) and crashing just off the strip for the night. Wednesday, I'll make the 5 hour drive to the North Rim and stay until the morning after (Sunday). I'm driving back to Vegas that day, staying that night and Monday, and taking a red-eye home late Monday (early Tuesday). I'll be wiped for my birthday (I don't sleep well on planes no matter what the time of day), but I'll be home, hopefully with some good photos.
