Went to Chicago for the weekend with
soaring_phoenix. She already posted about K's birthday party and Z's memorial, so I'm going the lazy route and not writing up details here. I will say it was great to see
elmegil,
gremlin44, and K again, to give them a hand with a few things, and to be part of both celebrations. I was particularly touched during the memorial yesterday when the leaves started gently falling from the trees. They hadn't been doing it before, and didn't do it much after the organized portion of the memorial was over as far as I noticed. It was also nice to see
asetwoman and
topherscott again, and to meet several other folks.
Had the same excessively perky physical therapist that Toni had this morning when I went for my appointment a couple of hours after hers. I was all prepared to kill her, but anyone who can massage the bottom of my foot and not tickle me to the point I want to twitch off the table earns a few points in my book. I've been going to PT for the left ankle and heel for just over a week. I'm to do several torturous stretches at home twice a day, and, except for the trip to Chicago, have been keeping up fairly well. I quit using the AirCast brace after the first visit, because the therapist said all it would really limit for me if anything would be the pain, and it really wasn't doing a lot for that anymore anyway. I have also put Triad orthotics in my shoes at the therapist's request. I think the left one is helping my problem ankle and foot. The right one is bothered a bit, but I don't want one in one shoe and not the other.
After the PT appointment I went to the optometrist for a full exam, first in at least two years I think. Al went with me to ensure I chose some frames that look good. I think they're almost identical to my current ones. I was pleased with the results of the exam and the new optometrist was very nice and quite thorough. My glasses don't correct much of a focusing problem - I have a tiny bit of farsightedness in my left eye, and no correction in my right. The main Rx in my glasses since I've worn them has been prisms to correct a convergence problem. My eyes don't want to work together, and it is just subtle enough to give me headaches when I am reading or doing close visual work. In fact, the glasses I've had over the years have had to come off when I drive, sit in a theatre, or do any kind of distance work, because the prisms have the added effect of blurring my distant vision. One reason I'm so pleased about my exam today is that this optometrist thinks that my convergence problem has become minimal. She was thinking about removing the prisms from my Rx, but refrained due to the fact that my eyes have been trained for so long to use them and she didn't want me going through a probably long period of annoying headaches to untrain them.
Tomorrow I need to pick up the pictures from the past weekend in Chicago and get our lawnmower back from the service center. I also need to take Al to work at 7:30am, and, as far as I know, take her from her store at 3pm to be at one of the downtown stores by 4pm for some training thing. She's supposed to confirm that schedule while at work this evening.

Date: 2004-09-13 02:07 pm (UTC)Is this the point where I admit I bought my pair of Triad orthotics partially because of the name?
No? Darn.
Anyway, until I got my custom orthotics, I liked the support the Triads provided.

Date: 2004-09-13 02:12 pm (UTC)Sure, why not? Toni was asked to get some for her shoes by the PT who started work on her knee, so she, Al, and I have been making the jokes already. Especially since today I went to Wal-Mart with Al to get some for her shoes - she thinks they'll help standing around Starbucks all day. So all three of us have Triads! ;-)
I like the support I'm getting for my left/weaker/injured foot, but the right one seems a bit annoyed. Not sure if that will be a problem over the long term.

Hmm. I adapted very quickly to the Triads, but the custom orthotics took me longer because they give so much more support. When I first got the custom ones, my doctor suggested I wear them an hour the first day, two hours the next, and so forth. I wonder if your Triads give enough support (that you're not used to getting) that adapting bit by bit like that would help.
