Lovely. I really like South Michegan Avenue picture, as well as the Bather Funtain and the Trib Tower Negative. You do such beautiful work, sweetie.

Those are some nice pictures of our fair city. I hope you enjoyed being here.

The library pics look like the Harold Washington Library Center branch of the Chicago Public Library, which is also a good guess judging from the location of the other buildings. It's the big Loop library. Harold Washington was Chicago's first and thus far only Black mayor. He died in office in - I think - 1987 or 1988. Just a bit of city history if you're interested. You included details like that in the other descriptions, so maybe you already knew that.

Might I also suggest, next time you're here, that you take one of the architectural tours on the river? I mean, you do have to look out for the Dave Matthews Band bus (!!!) but it gives you a great view of some famous buildings, many from the Art Deco era. You'll also have a tour guide giving you tidbits about the history of the buildings. That is, if you've never taken it before... and I don't recognize any of those shots as ones taken from the river.

I always enjoy Chicago. Been visiting for various reasons for years. Proximity to Indy helps - I have an endless list of things to see and do there and usually only cross off a few each time.

I did take one of the architectural river tours - one that leaves from North Pier. The docent was pretty good. She's working on her Ph.D. from IIT. The last five shots in this post were taken from that boat. :-)

Toni just told me about the Dave Matthews Band bus. Ew.

You know, I think you did say that you were on that tour or wrote it in your journal or something. I could have sworn you did but then I thought I was imagining it. I hadn't made it that far down the list when I posted that so I didn't realize you took pics from the boat. :)

What is on your list for next time?

Hard to say what I want to do next time. This weekend, I'm coming up with some combination of [livejournal.com profile] soaring_phoenix and or [livejournal.com profile] mac_arthur_park or just myself (depending on their availability) to help [livejournal.com profile] gremlin44 and P take care of stuff. Then the following weekend is their party for K and the memorial. I want to show Al (and Toni) the Seurat exhibit at the Art Institute before it leaves (I saw it when I was there while Toni was at the convention). We also thought about checking out the Forbidden City exhibit at the Field Museum, and I'm interested in the Action! exhibit at the Science and Industry museum. Given the priority of the other stuff, though, we may or may not get any of that done.

As for non-timed exhibit stuff I'd still like to do - I want to take my camera back up to the top of the Hancock after dark and remember my tripod. I like the view from Sears, but it's more expensive, and not as cool as the view along the lake from the Hancock. Still haven't been to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Want to eat a "real" Chicago pizza again sometime. I could go on... :-)

They look even better on this monitor. My monitor at home sucks eggs and makes most pics look bad, though yours still looked good.

The negative of the Trib tower is one of my favorites. That's really damn cool and I think you should use it in an art piece, if you do that kind of thing.

Thanks. I've definitely lined up the Trib tower negative shot for an upcoming entry somewhere.

Damn Dan! You know I love the architectural shots and I LOVE Chicago. Having been only once, I dream of Chicago more often than one might imagine, and I've told my hosts I intend to return as often as I am invited. So I loved all those shots, but I've got to say, the self-portrait blew me away.

I just told my friend from Chicago that I would post a link to these - but it occured to me that you might want to have a say in that. Do you mind?

Shouldn't be a problem - they're all low-res versions. I'm flattered you want to share. :-)
