I have to admit, even though the cauldron looked like Mighty JointTM, the extinguishing portion of the closing ceremony last night was very moving. The sympathetic lanterns the children lit and spread around were very cool, as were the lights given to each member of the audience. The coolest part, though, was the 10-year-old girl waiting for the cauldron to go back up and symbolically blowing out the flame. What made that whole portion of the ceremony even more moving was the music. I'd love to know, and get, the piece as arranged that was played during that part.

I really liked the closing ceremonies, including the girl blowing out the flame, but I totally cracked up, even teared up (unexpectedly) at the delight of the collage of cultures (for want of a better phrase, I'm not a poet) when the beach-people came out with their umbrellas and inflatable toys. :)
