Got home early yesterday evening. Ended up leaving Chicago in the mid-afternoon for several reasons, chief among them that Toni has an appointment this afternoon. Yesterday morning I wandered over to the River North neighborhood just across the river from our hotel and took some shots around the Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower, NBC Tower and Hotel Intercontinental before boarding a river cruise run by Chicago From The Lake. The docent is a doctoral candidate at the Illinois Institute of Technology and did a pretty good job explaining the history and style variations of most the landmarks visible from the river. Toward the end of the ninety-minute cruise, we were treated to several flyovers (which continued well afterward) by the Blue Angels, rehearsing for the Chicago Air and Water Show coming up this weekend. One thing the docent pointed out that I thought was interesting was regarding all the river walks that seem to be sprouting up around many of the sites that are being converted to residential spaces: apparently the EPA has upgraded the Chicago River from Toxic to Very Polluted. That would also explain why I saw more ducks swimming about.

I got quite a few shots around the river - have to drop off that film today. After the cruise, I decided to walk back to the hotel and take a break before finding lunch somewhere. I talked to Toni and we decided to come home yesterday, so I waited for her to get back to the room, packed up, and we took off. I need to remember (among many other things I forgot on this trip) to bring the FRS radios anytime we're going to be away from home on a road trip in separate cars. Cellular service in Jasper and White counties in NW Indiana sucks.

I may catch up reading online comics over the next few days. I doubt I'll ever catch up on LJ from the time I was gone, so if I missed something, hit me with it.

Today I'm going to make a couple of appointments (haircut, car maintenance), probably start laundry, and take Toni to the doc this afternoon. If she doesn't go to NYC Sunday morning, Al and I may drop in on GenCon tomorrow. Otherwise, we'll probably hit it on Sunday after taking Toni to the airport.
