Watching Groundhog Day earlier, [livejournal.com profile] soaring_phoenix and I were discussing just how long the character of Phil Conners was in that loop. I mentioned I thought it had to be years at least. She responded with centuries. I think her guess is more accurate, especially looking at all of the things he knows how to do by the time he gets it right.

Now it's time for another favorite, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

He might have gone more insane if he was in that loop for centuries. My guess would be somewhere in the middle ;-)

Groundhog Day is among my favorites, as well!

I wonder if Rubin and Ramis even cared. It's largely irrelevant, right? Phil's not aging; no one else is aging; time isn't actually passing. So from a story perspective, it doesn't have a bearing on his arc: what matters is that he does change, does acquire these skills, does become acquainted with himself and learn to genuinely love Rita (Andie MacDowell's character).

But I guess that answer makes me no fun, eh? :-)

I think you're right, actually. We have the DVD with Ramis' commentary, and I don't think he ever goes into the topic himself.

I agree that it is irrelevant - I just think about those sorts of things. :-)
