I thought it was just the fluorescents in the laundry room flickering while I was up there hanging stuff from the dryer.

Nope - it was the whole house. Two brief (seconds in duration) outages. Enough to confuse the cable modem and fsck up every AC-powered device with a clock in the house.

And the storm isn't even here yet, though I can hear the thunder.

Sheesh.

OK, time for a small UPS for the stuff in the entertainment center and the router.

I've been out on my hammock chair on the balcony for the last hour, resting my toes on the railing so they can get wet. I love watching these prairie skies change with the storms.

Thunder only scares me when I'm somewhere alone trying to sleep or alone late at night. Otherwise, they both fascinate me. Had I gone into my first career choice (meteorology), I wouldn't have been a TV weatherman, I'd have probably been a storm chaser. :-) I remember when I was 7 years old, my family and I stood outside in our front yard (I wouldn't do this today) watching a tornado ravage an adjacent neighborhood. When it started moving closer we did go to the basement.
