Watching "Looney Tunes" while trying to wake up... Need to run a lot of errands and do some clean-up around the house today. Going to suggest going out to pick up a bagel or something to [livejournal.com profile] computerchix, since there is no milk nor much of any other breakfast-type food in the house. Want to find some dance shoes for contra dance, since my dress shoes, while they have the right soles, are not exactly comfortable. Need to get some stuff to take to Death Valley for the big bike ride next weekend.

Gotta pick up around here, because friends from Denver are probably going to drop in on [livejournal.com profile] computerchix while I'm in Death Valley, and later today one of my photog buds is coming over to help me work on the darkroom a little. We have three enlargers on the dry bench, and no room to do anything around them. We're going to consolidate and make room for his new 4x5 color enlarger (yay!).

Contra?

So, how long have you been contra dancing? I've just been doing it for the last few months, and I love it! I take it you won't be going to the Gypsy Moon Ball next weekend since you are going to Death Valley? I won't be going either (I have kids to watch), but I couldn't resist commenting since contra is one of the things that I get really excited about...

"How long" depends on when to count that I started. Toni and I went two or three times (there are regular Tuesday night dances downtown here) about five years ago, and dropped out for various reasons (scheduling, other priorities, etc.). We kept saying for a while that we need to go back, but never did. Finally, I got off my you-know-what a couple of months ago and just went back myself. I'm not sure that Toni's too interested in going back, but in any case she's giving it to me as "my time" by not going. I've been probably three or four times since starting back. I absolutely love it. It's an excuse to get in some activity, the music is awesome, and the dances themselves are really cool moves (with lots of flirting! ;-) I'm bummed I'll miss the big "ball" here next weekend, but I've been training all summer for this bike ride...

If you can make it sometime, the group here in Indy also holds Saturday dances on occasion - the next one is November 23, the weekend before Thanksgiving.

So, you are about as experienced as I am. :-) I started attending dances back in June, and I have been going every other week since then. I wish I could say I am a great contra dancer, but I am still learning. The flirtatious aspect of contra is one of my favorite parts. :-) Well, that and I love old-time music and losing myself in it while dancing. I think attending a dance in Indianapolis would be great fun! Perhaps I can plan to make it for the one in November.

I noticed that you added me on Yahoo Messenger. I look forward to chatting with you sometime.

I definitely make mistakes from time to time, especially if the caller puts in a Contra Corners move! Last time I went, I was proud of myself for getting through two dances in a row without a major flub. :-)

That is something to be proud of. :-) We had an all-night dance here in Central Illinois recently and toward the end of the night the dances were -so- hard. I flubbed a bit more than once during those. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who makes mistakes. Most of the people I dance with have been doing it for 5, 10, 20 years. I try to remind myself that compared with them, I have been doing it for a very short period of time.

So, will you be going to the dance in November?

The Tuesday dances here have a lot of long-time regulars, who are very helpful in politely "steering" us newbies around the dance floor when necessary.

Right now, I definitely plan on going to the November Saturday dance in Indy.
