Helluva Day

I hate when something startling awakens me just before the alarm is set to go off. This morning, it was the passing of a rather violent thunderstorm. It usually portends that it is not going to be a good day...

I got up and went to work, getting bouncy about seeing my sweeties again, particularly when I found out from [livejournal.com profile] computerchix that she would be home from Dayton this morning rather than as late as tomorrow. I sat through a boring conference call at work (although I was provided with some mental distraction) waiting to go to lunch when she got back into town. Before the con call ended, I learned of her broken tooth (see her LJ for all the details). I wouldn't be meeting her specifically for lunch, but I did take her to the endodontist and oral surgeon for the extraction, leaving her at home to recover before heading back to work for a quite hectic last two hours of my work day. See, I have been hounded all week by our Legal department to provide this and that for some arbitration being filed today, and they needed one more document by 5pm my time this afternoon. I also was hounded by Marketing to provide a couple of revisions for a reseller info binder that I didn't know about before the beginning of the week. And, when I checked my voicemail on my way back to the office, I also had a message from someone needing me for an urgent meeting at 4pm this afternoon. Oddly enough, I managed to get all the documents done and sit through the 4pm con call. I might have been less rushed had I not taken [livejournal.com profile] computerchix to her dental appointments, but IMHO that was not an option.

I did manage to start another book while in the waiting rooms at the endodontist and the oral surgeon, and I'm quite captivated: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. For all the whining I'd done recently about losing my ability to read quickly, I'm already about half finished with this one. In fact, I'm going to cut this post short and get back to it. I'm quite entertained...

My feedback, for what it's worth since I'm the person that recommended it to him, is that it's *wonderful*! Lots of literary inside jokes, a complex plot, and a terrific and unique idea behind it all.

The thunderstorms that hit Buffalo late last night and later this morning were pretty damn intense. I love when I see news of houses on fire due to lightning strikes. Yay.

I'm also afraid of lightning, but I'm still fascinated by it.

Do you have any recommendations on where to grab cheap books online? I know you read a hell of a lot (maybe even more than me!) and I figured you may be able to point me in the right direction. :)

I love thunderstorms, just not right before I have to get up. :-) Lightning totally fascinates me.

You might try either Abe Books (a good comparison shopping site) or Alibris for a good used book source.
