Lessons learned on today's ride
Sep. 8th, 2002 06:51 pm"Only" did 50 miles today (okay, so the route total was 52, so I'm considering it a success). Learned a few things to help me prepare for the big Death Valley 105 mile ride:
1. Warm Cytomax tastes awful. The only thing that may be worse is warm Gatorade. Must use insulated water bottles.
2. The energy "gels" are not disgusting after all. Like eating frosting, with a comparable sugar rush.
3. In Indiana in September, on a sunny day, when it is supposed to get above 90F, don't forget sunscreen. A counterclockwise ride starting in the northwest corner as the sun moves across the sky leaves "interesting" sunburns.
4. I have to keep up the arm exercises. While I had enough endurance to do all the miles, my arms were tired of holding me up on the bike (going to try readjusting the handlebars, too).
