Sirius Black

Sitting here with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on in the DVD player. Just got to the part where Sirius shows up, as a dog, and pulls Ron under the Whomping Willow.

I asked Toni, "So, would Sirius have had a better chance of catching Peter if he could turn into a rat terrier?"

Bailey says: Did somebody say RAT TERRIER? That'd be me!!! Me!!! Me!!! I'm a Rat Terrier!

...and then he proceeds to chase his tail, knocking things over all over the office...

That's actually a really good question - we know Sirius can turn into a dog - can he control what type of dog? I can imagine situations, while fighting Voldemort, you might need a rat terrier or a Scottish deerhound, depending on the dark magic used.

Hmm... plot hole?

If he can, where is the biological limit? At the species or genus level? Can Professor McGonagall turn into a lion or just different domestic cats? </geek>
