#1 Yosemite - I'll buy that.
#2 Eureka - Haven't been there, but if it's anything like I've heard, this makes sense, too.
#3 Lake Tahoe - Maybe.
#4 Oakland - Eh. Passed through a couple of times in my many Bay Area visits, but don't know that much about it.
#5 Sacramento - No clue.
#6 San Diego - Ditto.
#7 San Francisco - Love visiting, don't think I could live there.
#8 San Jose - No.
#9 Marin - Maybe. Money being no object.
#10 Palm Springs - I like deserts, so maybe.
#11 Modesto - Uh...
#12 Redding - Possibly.
#13 Los Angeles - Nope. Want to visit sometime. No desire to live there.
#14 Fresno - Huh?

I grew up in Eureka, it's gorgeous. Modesto is hell. Los Angeles is cool in its own way.

I don't know where Lee Vining is.

Death Valley is a big damn desert down southerly, IIRC. I went there once.

Lee Vining is the main town near Mono Lake, about 3 hours south of Reno, NV. Went there for the winter photo seminar last January. Nice place, albeit very remote.

I fell in love with Death Valley when I went there for my big bike ride in October of 2002.

I was just remarking that neither made my list. :-)

Fresno? Think flat, dry, agricultural, conservative and desert-like heat. I go to that area a few times a year due to blackfyr's best friend living down there. I'd live in Illinois first, and I hate landlocked states.
