great weekend... now back to the grind...
Aug. 5th, 2002 08:11 amPicked up
computerchix at SFO Friday night. Lifted my mood immediately. Saturday AM, we meandered up to the City, checked out Good Vibrations, Ghirardelli Square, and Pier 39 (the last spot not so much for the shopping/tourist traps, as for the sea lions). Last time I saw them, all I had with me was a simple point-and-shoot APS camera. This time, I hope some of the 35mm shots come out. While we were watching, one of the sea lions came up underneath one of the platforms and dumped the others off - zie caused quite a ruckus! Ate lunch at Boudin's (mmmmm) and had sundaes at Ghirardelli's (even more mmmmm). We thought about checking out the Exploratorium, but decided to wait and maybe do it Sunday, as we needed to get back to the south bay to meet a group of 'bats and some of their SOs for dinner.
Dinner was terrific. Of all time times I've come to the bay area, I've never felt so comfortable around such a diverse group. Much laughter and good times seemed to be had by all. No, I wasn't a standout - I never am at first - I'm just slower to open up. As I get to know this bunch better, they probably won't be able to shut me up :-) I really appreciated feeling a part of the group so quickly - not used to that.
computerchix was so taken in by the area this time, and especially the social community and opportunities that we've even started having conversations about relocating here. I'll be honest - there would be a lot of advantages. Too many to list. Real estate prices, some things I've heard about California government, and crowds (mainly on the roads) are the big negatives. I'm admittedly chicken about uprooting from my current job and a possible downgrade in our standard of living. My company is headquartered out here, so I might find something internal, but would it be the right fit, or pay "enough" (whatever that means)? I've never seen
computerchix so comfortable socially, though (I hope she isn't bothered about me writing this), and we've already (if Saturday night is any indication), made better friends in the bi and poly communities than I think we'll ever find back home.
Sunday's attempted sightseeing was aborted. We were at Border's, killing time, just had lunch at In-n-Out Burger (
computerchix wanted to try), and we were supposed to meet
mactavish and SO to do some sightseeing when
computerchix got ill. Took her back to the hotel for a nap, and she's better. She's promised to call the doctor to see why this happens occassionally. We don't think it was In-n-Out.
Dropped
computerchix off at SFO early this morning. Four days of work before I return home early Friday morning. Nothing going on tonight or Thursday night if any of the folks I met Friday are free for dinner or "whatever" (
klwalton and
joedecker, I kept the 35mm camera with me :-) Going on a bike ride tomorrow night with a coworker down in the foothills in Cupertino - the hills are going to kick my butt, but I'll need the practice for my Death Valley ride in October. Can't get hill riding practice back home. Good bike ride locations - another advantage of relocating.
Oh well, back to work...
