No Ribbons, No Sweat
Aug. 4th, 2003 08:26 pmWent to the Exhibitor's Open House tonight for the Indiana State Fair (a chance to see if I won anything before the fair opens Wednesday). I didn't get any ribbons this year, my 2nd year in a row of entering, but I'm not disappointed this time... really. Considering the scope and size of entries (over 800 prints were hung on display, from a much larger crop of entries), the fact that they chose two of my entries to display is a pretty good feeling. Besides, one of them is already sold. :-)
Entries here. They displayed "Mono Lake Winter Moonrise" and "Gateway Arch from Under the North Leg". I've learned not to second guess the judges, either. Last year, I entered mostly landscapes and saw that many of the winners were "people shots". So, this year I entered two of what I thought were some of my best people shots (G rated, anyway), and we discovered that not only were there practically no ribbon winners of that type (other than those in the obvious "portraits" category), there weren't too many people shots displayed this year at all.
computerchix thinks that, since I'll be in town for it this time, I should go ahead and register for and attend the judges' critique at the end of the fair. I may do that, just to see what they say.
Before this week is out, I need to get the entries referred to here to The Indianapolis Star. They have simple critera listed: "Better than travel postcards. Wow us."
