Make it stop! [livejournal.com profile] computerchix shared with me, since she heard it earlier today thanks to a cow-orker listening to Radio Disney, that silly little song that I can't even name. I just remember it was on The Muppet Show years ago, performed I think by a couple of inchworm-like Muppets. I usually cure earworms by listening to the song again, but I don't even know what to Google. All I can think of to represent how it goes is this:

<low-pitched voice> Fa Nominon
<high-pitched voice> Deet Deeeee Di Di Di
<low-pitched voice> Fa Nominon
<high-pitched voice> Deet Deeeee Deet Di
<low-pitched voice> Fa Nominon
<high-pitched voice> Deet Deeeee Di Di Di, Di Di Di, Di Di Di, Di Di Di Diddle Deet Deet Di Di Di

Repeat, etc.

Shoot me now.

That's okay, [livejournal.com profile] computerchix is, at this very moment, doing a good enough job of that. ;-) My insatiable curiosity is piqued and I want to know what the heck it's called.

I don't know who you are, but I sure don't hate you. That was one of my VERY favorite muppet routines and I LOVE that you found it! :)

Absolutely not! I'd been wondering about the name for a long time. :-)

It's called "Mah Nah Mah Nah". =) Luckily for you, I *just* deleted that mp3 file off my server yesterday and don't seem to have a copy here at home. ;)

We have a 10-DVD "Best of" set, and I know that routine is in there, but I couldn't remember the episode and wasn't feeling up to digging through 10 DVDs. I knew some of my LJ friends would know more than I did more quickly. :-)

Yep! I'll probably buy that at some near-future point...I was a serious fan of it growing up. Didn't know there was a DVD set until I went looking for the video.

I remember the two inchworm puppets on the tip of my mind, but I don't remember them singing anything like this. The first thing that sprang to mind was actually the monks from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", but I see the smack in the head noise isn't included in these lyrics ;)

Does spring to mind though.. does anyone else remember two Muppets that used to yell "Meep meep", or "woop, woooopwoopwoop"? Or Sesame Street?

I could be wrong about it being the song by the inchworms, but they're together in my head, anyway. :-)

I might still have it, if I don't, I bet [livejournal.com profile] pained does.

I'd have to look through several ZIP disks, but if you still need it, I will.

There's a Brazilian/Japanese song that covers it for a chorus.. the video is played on Worldlinktv frequently... It's called "Made in Japan" or something like that (they replace "Mah na mah nah" with "made in japan"). Worst earworm EVER.

Yeah!!! I can totally hear the whoopwhoopwhooper in my head right now, but I have no clue what that was! They kind of bounced up and down, didn't they?

I should ask my mother. She remembers that kind of weird stuff. (She and I both think it's the Muppets.)

I just listened to the song, and that lower pitched voice is definately Rolph the dog!

I'm way too excited about this post.

Now I feel that I must watch The Muppet Movie. I'd much rather have "Movin' Right Along" stuck in my head all week.

Oh my doG, I'm NOT crazy!! Yeah, they did bounce! They weren't even "solid" puppets, looked more like fake fur draped over someone's hand and they crumpled when they jumped up and down....

If you find out what this was, tell me! For now it shall torment my days until I KNOW....:P

Inchworms?!? Nooooo....

I remember a version that had a fully formed muppet singing it, maybe I'm remembering a Sesame Street clip...
The monster (grover/elmo like, red and orange, but one of the anon. monster crowd) starts off singing really soft, then gets wild and out of control, then catches himself, and goes back to singing soft... mahna mahna... The monster might have been a prototype for Animal (always one of my favs)

Any body else remember this one?

Now that I think about it, I'm getting more certain I have the wrong image linking the inchworms to that song. Could the low-pitched part have been performed by Sweetums (the really huge Muppet)? The voice in the MP3 that's been linked in this thread sounds like it could have been him...

Date: 2003-08-06 06:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] djinnthespazz.livejournal.com
Now this is frustrating. I have a very clear picture of the one muppet. I know there were other muppets in the scene. Sweetums? I don't... think... so... gah! I don't think so. But I really can't recall what the other/s looked like. Big Blank.

And the inchworms might have been a Muppet Show Skit. Recycling some material was not unheard of. Different audience, same targets.

In college one rowdy night, one of my best friends and I were wandering around the plaza by the Metro station accross from my dorm loudly singing "Monogamy" to the aforementioned tune. (followed by a conversation about the virtues of nonmonogamy.)

One ear worm: aquired
